IN-AIR is supported by three parent institutions : CNRS, Météo-France and CNES. The infrastructure is distributed : the 2 (3 in 2031) research aircraft are located at the airport of Toulouse Francazal, the Ballons sub-directorate is located in Toulouse (France) and at the Aire-sur-l’Adour (France) launch facility.
The governance of the infrastructure is structured around the IN AIR directorate, the steering committee, the operational sub-directorate and the scientific council.
- The IN AIR directorate coordinate the IN AIR call for access, transversal activities, and interact with international partners to create opportunities for users. It develops development strategies as responses to new research challenges.
- The steering committee is composed of parent institution representatives. It informs the IN AIR directorate about political and programmatic elements, defined main scientific and technological directions and validate propositions of the IN AIR directorate.
- Operational sub-directorates have in charge to manage human and technical resources for the good implementation of IN AIR missions. They manage the campaigns’ logistics, organization, perform the flights and develop technological upgrades for increased capacities of the infrastructure.
- The scientific council informs on the scientific roadmap and future opportunities.
