Traditionally, the access to aircraft and balloons used to be managed independently by the mission Principal Investigator (PI). The access to balloons used to be process throught the CNES APR call once a year. On the side of aircraft, the SAFIRE Fleet used to be sollicited once the PI was granted financial support for flight hours from external funding sources.
With IN-AIR, we design an hybrid mode of access considering specificities of both aircraft and balloon accesses, but to allow coordinated missions potentially involving both vectors. IN AIR will soon become the only mean of access to all facilities. The access to platforms and instruments will be possible through an annual call for access (common for balloon and aircraft, allowing for coordinated missions involving both vectors).
The proposal will be submitted to the AAP IN AIR and evaluated by scientific committees of CNRS/INSU and CNES for the scientific relevance of the proposed mission (this is the first step). Then, a programmatic committee will evaluate the technical and economical feasibility of the mission.
For aircraft access only, 2 additional sessions of programmatic committee will be implemented.
